Avoid a conflict – Избежание конфликта

Ex. 81 Frank and Diana wrote letters for a teenage magazine. Read their letters and say whose ideas were those: Фрэнк и Диана написали письма для подросткового журнала. Прочитайте их письма и скажите, чьи это идеи:

a) Even if people are different, it doesn’t mean that they can’t get along. — Даже если люди разные, это не значит, что они не могут ужиться.
b) When you try to resolve a conflict, choose your words very carefully. — При попытке разрешить конфликт выбирайте слова очень тщательно.

When people have problems the first thing to do is to talk. Tell them what makes you unhappy. Just be brave when you speak to them. Don’t use words like never and always. Don’t use words that hurt people. Speak calmly.
If communication doesn’t provide a solution, ask someone who is older than both of you for help. If they don’t support you, take things into your own hands and be firm. If can’t do it one way, try another. This is how great discoveries are made.

Sphinx

I’d like to tell you about half human fabulous creatures. Creatures came from different cultures’ mythology and folk tales.
A sphinx is a creature with the body of a lion and a human head, sometimes with the wings of a great bird. They killed and ate those who couldn’t answer their riddle. The Egyptian sphinx is typically shown as a man, but the Greek sphinx is a woman. Both were guardians flanking the entrances to temples.
The most famous sphinx is the Great Sphinx of Giza, which is located to the east of and below the pyramids. It has become an emblem of Egypt, appearing on its stamps, coins, and official documents.

The man who could draw a perfect circle
Isambard Kingdom Brunel (9 April 1806 — 15 September 1859) was an English engineer. He was born in Portsmouth, UK, the son of Marc Brunel, a naval officer and an engineer. He worked in his father’s office, and helped to plan the Thames Tunnel, opened in 1843. He himself planned the Clifton Suspension Bridge, and the Hungerford Suspension Bridge over the Thames. He designed the Great Western (1837), the first steamship built to cross the Atlantic, the Great Britain (1843), the first ocean screw-steamer, and the Great Eastern (1858), then the largest vessel ever built. He was also appointed engineer to the Great Western Railway (1833) and constructed many docks.
