Hit and Run by Dina Anastasio

Kate and Jim walked to the park,
And on the corner they met Clark.
Clark then walked with Kate and Jim,
And soon they stopped to take a swim.

While at the pool, they all asked Mark
To go with them to the park,
Mark said, sure, he’d love to go,
He’d even bring his best friend Joe.

Taking Leave

Very often it is difficult to know how to stop a conversation and leave a party. Usually people do not quit talking, say good-bye and leave each other abruptly. It is quite normal to say some time before you leave that you are going to do so:
I’m afraid I must be going now.
I must be off, I’m afraid.
Must be going, I’m afraid.
I really have to go now. It’s getting late. Good-bye.
I’m afraid I can’t stay any longer. Good-bye and thank you.

This wonderful animal world

sponge

sponge

Animals live all over the world. They walk or crawl on land, fly in the air and swim in the water. Dogs, horses, sparrows, frogs, and worms are all animals. So are butterflies, goldfish, elephants, cockroaches, and snakes.
Animals may be of many shapes and sizes and some of them do not even look like animals. Many water animals look like plants growing on the rocks or in the sand under the water.
Plants and animals are different from each other in two important ways. First, plants cannot move by their own power as animals can, and, second, animals cannot make their own food as plants do.
There might be some doubt about a sponge. Is it an animal or a plant? The sponge does not fit the rule because it cannot move. Yet it is an animal because it does not make its own food. It lives by feeding on small animals in the water.
